My visit to Tucson was an extra-special treat because my beloved friend Carly flew out from Vermont to meet me. We stayed at her Aunt Lorraine and Uncle George’s house (Carly in the guest room and me in the van outside) and got to avail ourselves of the luxurious hot tub and back patio. The view of the Catalina Mountains from their back yard was truly stunning. I was there and took the photos myself, and yet I still look at them and think they were faked.
Carly and I also adventured downtown on Fourth Avenue, dining at Boca Tacos y Tequila and shopping at Antigone Books, Popcycle, & Gallery, and—because it’s Carly and me—Goodwill. (Carly would want me to note that she only wore the hat in the restaurant photo because of the blazing Arizona sun and not for its style qualities.) I got my mohawk freshened up at the oddly Star Wars-themed Fourth Avenue Barbershop while Carly waited patiently. Later, we ventured into Saguaro National Park and watched some cacti show off.
On one of the days of her visit, Carly volunteered to help her longtime friend Jen organize her RV. Jen plans to take off on a similar adventure to mine in the near future, with two dogs (one small and one large, like mine!) and a cat. Organizational whiz that Carly is, she spent a day advising and organizing while I worked from her aunt’s patio. Later in the day, I joined Carly and Jen, and I got to meet Jen’s delightful dogs, Ronnie and Charlie. Charlie took a distinct liking to Miso first (and Miso was oddly, almost creepily, patient), but later he moved his affections over to me. Thankfully, his moves had adjusted to just kisses by that time. If Jen hadn’t been so cool, I might have tried to steal Charlie. What a hilarious and rad little dog!
