My sister flew out to meet me for another visit, this time for a full five days, starting in Nashville. We stayed in Silver Point, a tiny, unincorporated village about an hour east of the city, at a Hipcamp with a manager who rides a horse around to check on the sites.
Before Lauren arrived, I got to meet my old Vermont friends Jen Smithers and Asa Brosius for a long lunch at Bottle Cap. I hadn’t seen them in quite a while, and I treasure that visit. I followed it with a visit to the Centennial Dog Park and a stroll by the Parthenon, a full-scale replica of the original, built for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition. (It’s now a museum, and my sister and I went inside the next day and enjoyed its wonders, including the massive statue of Athena, the Cowan Collection of American Art, and selected contemporary works from Red Arrow Gallery.)
Lauren and I took dog walks, visited a silly little antique/thrift shop, got tasty meals, drinks, and coffee at Germantown Café, Fable Lounge, Flamingo Cocktail Club, and Barista Parlor. We ran out of time and missed out on hot chicken from Hattie B’s and lots of other things that were on my list, so I’ll have to go back. Luckily, we made it to the legendary Hatch Show Print, which was a priority for me.
We did a little poking around Silver Point, as well, driving up to the Appalachian Center for Craft and taking in the views of Center Hill Lake.
