I got to stay at the beautiful home of my beloved friend Adrian’s parents during my time in Memphis. Mimi and Burke were the most gracious hosts, not only to me but also to my dogs—as evidenced by all the photos of my boys on their fancy furniture.
Mimi and I took the dogs for an off-leash run at Shelby Farms Park, got tasty lunch at Gus’s Fried Chicken, visited the Ornamental Metal Museum and got to see the special exhibit of rings (most unwearable, but all fascinating), walked around the Crosstown Concourse, and stopped by the Midsouth Greyhound Adoption center, where I nearly went home with an adorable brindle named Fireball. The only reason I resisted is because she wasn’t yet available officially. Thank heavens circumstances protected me from myself!
On my last night in town, Burke, Mimi, and I got barbecue at Rendezvous—where our server had worked for 38 years!—and had an after-dinner cocktail in the ritzy lobby of the Peabody Hotel.
I wish I could have spent more time in Memphis, and I definitely plan to go back. I want to take photos of all the gorgeous old signs around the city, visit the Civil Rights Museum and Stax, and eat at so many more restaurants.
