I stopped in Franktown to visit my great-uncle John. He is my maternal grandfather’s (22-years) younger brother. My grandfather returned from WWII to discover that his parents had made a new baby while he was away. Surprise! I got to stay in the guest room of his large and beautiful house, the dogs got to ogle their visiting flock of majestic wild turkeys, and John and I took my boys and his Chesapeake Bay retriever, Duke, on a nice walk around the Hidden Mesa Open Space. We rode to the park in John’s ancient Chevy Silverado, with Mochi chilling in the back like a real dawg. It was great to see John and hear the cadence of his voice, so much like my grandfather’s was, and Mochi already misses wrestling with Duke.
